When purchasing a property in Spain or working in Spain, you will need to make and receive payments of various bills and invoices, so you will need to open a bank account in Spain.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO OPEN A BANK ACCOUNT?

These are the requirements to open a bank account:

1.- Copy of your passport or National Identification Card.

In order to open a bank account, the branch of the bank will need the original and a copy of your passport or national identification card.

2.- NIE Certificate

When opening a bank account, overseas buyers need to obtain a NIE certificate. This is a fiscal number for non-residents. As part of our service we include applying for NIE certificates for all individuals on the bank account opening.

3.- Financial documentation

It is not possible to open a bank account unless you provide financial documentation. Generally speaking, they ask for:

– last payslip

– P60 (annual tax)

The reason is that Banks need to know the origin of funds and if client has enough incomes and/or savings.

4.- TIN number.

It is completely necessary to provide your TIN number (Taxpayer´s Identification Number). It usually appears at your P60 or Tax Return.

IS IT NECESSARY TO VISIT THE BRANCH IN SPAIN TO OPEN THE ACCOUNT?

The answer is YES.

As per security reasons, banks do not allow solicitors to open accounts with Power of Attorney. It is mandatory for the client to visit the branch and sign the contract in person.
